To embark on an adventure to create a ring with a mechanical bee and moving flowers takes a bit of madness and a lot of patience. Early in 2010 it was that bit of madness that provoked a good client friend and myself to take this journey into the land of flowers and springs. The tradition of “en tremblant” jewelry goes back many centuries and is found mostly on brooches and pendants. This ring was to be made to be more mechanical and a lot more sturdy due to the type of wear it would be receiving.
The initial concept was made in wax and then cast in silver. Each of the flowers on the ring are enameled in different colors, so the silver model had to be carefully edited. Since every piece that is made at Object Design must be serviceable, the bee has been constructed in several parts to accommodate the intricate mechanics the are housed inside. These models are then carefully molded and then cast in gold and platinum.
