A man wants to travel across his Sea of Dreams in order to reach the Island of his Imagination. If he can reach this island there is a little house where he can stay and many beautiful and wondrous things he can experience. He needs to find a magical boat to make this journey. He also needs to find a special, Astral-Gyro-Navigating Compass to find his way.
As he prepares for his trip he meets a very old and very wise snail, whose name is Aku. Aku lives in the moment of each inch of each day because he travels very slowly and views each inch as he travels. The man can learn a lot from Aku and they become very good friends.
They go in search of the Navigating Compass and the magical boat, which they finally find on the shore of the Sea of Dreams. Of course they find many beautiful shells and things as they walk along the shore. The man learns to see each of each day as really fulfilling and each day he becomes more and more ready to take the voyage across this Sea.
The trip itself doesn’t take very long and Aku and the man enjoy good breezes and fair sailing. When they get to the Island of Imagination they find the house in which they can reside and begin an adventure of discovery that can only be described as truly “Amazing!” Along the way, they meet a beautiful bird with red plumage. Her name is Rosette and she takes the man above the trees to see the vastness of the island. For his part, the man is able to begin to open himself to the endless possibilities of love and life.
Of course, the only way for one to actually see this adventure is by experiencing the artifacts and souvenirs that Aku and the man find along the way.
Something perplexing about this story involves the views from the little house on the Island. One sees the boat and the seashore, but the question becomes where this house may be. Is it on the Island of Imagination or is it on the other shore? There is another house visible from the window in the distance. Is there another Island, another person’s Imagination to see? Did Aku and the man return back home in the end, so this is the view we see?
